Ben Lomond stands as the most southerly of Scotland's Munros, rising above the eastern shore of Loch Lomond at 974 metres. At the turning of the year, when a winter moon sets low behind the summit before dawn breaks, the mountain takes on a stillness that its summer crowds rarely see. This is Scotland at its most quietly magnificent.
