Loch Ardinning is a favourite local spot, not far from home, with a wonderful view towards Dumgoyne and the western end of the Campsie Fells. Dumgoyne's distinctive profile is the remnant of an ancient volcanic vent, formed around 300 million years ago when this part of Scotland was volcanically active. The original volcano has long since disappeared through erosion, leaving one of the area's most recognisable landmarks.
