Overnight snow had covered the hills, and by dawn the great mountains on the southern side of Glen Coe were beginning to catch the first light. Stob Coire nan Lochan (1,115m) and Stob Coire Sgreamhach (1,072m) form part of the great Bidean nam Bian massif, culminating at 1,150m, the highest point in Argyll. From this remote corner of Rannoch Moor, the familiar mountains take on a very different character, with the sunlit snow above and the glen still held in the cold blue of morning.
