Temperature inversions and moonrises are two of my favourite things to photograph in the mountains, but bringing them together in a single composition is considerably more difficult than it might appear. The timing of the moonrise, the position of the setting sun, the height of the cloud and, of course, the weather all have to come together. On this particular evening, everything fell into place.
