The Photograph
Castlebay
Hasselblad XPan 90mm
For a relatively small island Barra has a remarkably diverse landscape rich in photographic opportunities. At 1256 ft, Sheabhal forms the highest point and unsurprisingly gives wonderful Hebridean views in every quarter of the compass. This photograph shows its southern aspect overlooking Castlebay to the islands of Vatersay and the uninhabited Sandray, Pabbay, Mingulay and Berneray. My original intention was to make the image without the inclusion of the Caledonian MacBrayne passenger ferry, but by shear chance I watched the early morning service depart for Oban and position itself quite perfectly en route.
