Mid-February, yet there was remarkably little sign of winter in the landscape and even on the summit the air was unseasonably mild. The view takes in the unmistakable shape of Beinn Trilleachan, with the long, complex profile of the Ben Cruachan range rising beyond. An easterly wind is often a good sign on the western mountains, with cloud tending to break as it crosses the Highlands and descends towards the coast. On this evening it left the summits clear and, more importantly, an open western sky, allowing the low sun to pick out the ridges and folds of the landscape as the day drew to a close.
