For a short time in December high pressure was firmly in control of the weather, bringing a temperature inversion that stretched across much of Scotland’s western seaboard. From Ben Oss, Beinn Bhuidhe rose above the sea of cloud, its snow-covered slopes catching the last of the low winter sunlight. There was barely a breath of wind on the summit, an unusual stillness that made an already remarkable evening feel even more settled and quiet.
